Over 2.01 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses still available with states, UTs: Centre

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Monday said that more than 2.01 crore balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with states, Union Territories and private hospitals to be administered.

According to the ministry, the centre through various sources have so far provided 36.97 crore vaccine doses to states and Union Territories. Of this, the total consumption including wastage is 34,95,74,408 doses.

The Centre is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country. The new phase of universalisation of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from June 21.

The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to states and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain.

In a statement, the ministry stated that the Union Government was committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country.

The new phase of universalization of COVID-19 vaccination commenced on June 21 2021.

"The vaccination drive has been ramped up through the availability of more vaccines, advanced visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them and streamlining the vaccine supply chain," the statement read.

As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the government of India has been supporting the states and union territories by providing them COVID Vaccines free of cost.

In the new phase of the universalization of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, the Centre will procure and supply 75 per cent of the vaccines being produced by the vaccine manufacturers in the country to states and union territory.
