Organisers of the Jahangirpuri procession did not seek permission, Delhi Police files FIR
text_fieldsDelhi Police has filed an FIR against the organisers of the Bajrang Dal procession that led to communal clashes in Jahangirpuri on April 16. DCP (Northwest) Usha Rangnani confirmed that the organisers did not seek permission.
The rally had people carrying weapons like swords, lathis, and guns. The processions stopped in front of the mosque when the fast was scheduled to break. Some men in the rally shouted provocative and aggressive slogans which led to a riot in which many including police officers were injured.
What started as an argument escalated into stone pelting from both sides. 22 men have been arrested so far in the incident. The other two processions carried out in the morning and evening in the same area had permission, said the police.
The DCP said that the police have lodged an FIR under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) against the organisers for carrying out a procession without any permission. One of the accused is already cooperating with the investigation.
