Chandigarh: The Punjab State chief electoral officer directed the District Election Officer and the Senior Superintendent of Police to register an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal along with his party violating the model code of conduct, The Indian Express reported.

As per the electoral officer, Kejriwal and his party made false and baseless allegations against other political parties. Punjab is heading for assembly polls on Sunday.

The officer made the move based on a complaint filed by the vice-president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) party, Arshdeep Singh Kler. He had questioned a video AAP posted on Twitter and Facebook, which according to him, tarnished his party as well as others before the general public.

The video reportedly features a song "es var jhaadu challooga" and photographs of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Captain Amarinder Singh and Sukhbir Singh Badal while using derogatory words against them.

Arshdeep Singh Kler told The Indian Express that AAP had been uploading similar videos on social media for a while after the Election Commission had approved some other videos. This is the third video that has been uploaded without Election Commission's clearance, he claimed.

The chief electoral officer said that the mentioned video clip had not been approved by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee. Therefore the officer had directed authorities to register the FIR.

Punjab is going to the polls with 117 assembly seats. The frontline contesting parties are Congress, AAP, SAD-BSP, BJP-PLC-SAD (Sanyukt) and the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha, a union of various farmer bodies.
