Noel Tata appointed as next chairman of Tata Trusts
text_fieldsMumbai: A day after the funeral of Ratan Tata, his half-brother Noel Tata has been appointed as the chairman of Tata Trusts, reports say.
Noel Tata, the vice chairman of Tata Steel and watch company Titan, reportedly received a majority consent for the position at a meeting held in Mumbai.
Ratan Tata (86) had been the chairman of Tata Trusts since 1991 and he died on Wednesday night at a Mumbai hospital.
Noel Tata’s mother Simone Tata, a French-Swiss Catholic, is Ratan Tata's stepmother, according to NDTV.
She is currently chairman of Trent, Voltas, Tata Investment Corporation, and Tata International.
It is reported that Noel Tata was groomed for long to take over the position.
Alongside he has been a key figure in Tata Group’s growth story since he joined it in the early 2000s, according to NDTV.
Tata Trust, which oversees functions of all 14 Tata trusts, will induct Noel as the chairman of the executive committee, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Ratan Tata's younger brother, Jimmy, who is not into the family’s business, lives in a modest two-bedroom apartment in Colaba in the city.
After his parents Naval and Sooni Tata divorced when he was 10, Ratan Tata was raised by his grandmother.
Noel Tata, the son of Naval H Tata and Simone N Tata, is associated with the Tata Group for over 4 decades.
