New Delhi: A man in Hyderabad has a special pooja performed for the safety of his new Tesla car saying without it the vehicle will not get ‘get a five-star safety rating in Indian culture’.

Dr Praveen Koduru following the tradition performed a ‘vahan pooja’ for his a Tesla Model Y in striking Ultra Red colour, The Indian Express reported.

The ritual usually involves driving the car to a temple or inviting a priest to perform the pooja with prayers, breaking a coconut, anointing vermillion alongside garlanding the car.

The practice based on the belief to bring safety and prosperity remains popular to date.

Dr Praveen Koduru, sharing photos of his car, wrote: ‘No car, including Tesla, can get a five-star safety rating in Indian culture, unless a vahan pooja is done.’

The laparoscopic surgeon received Model Y last week in the first delivery of a Tesla in Hyderabad.

The new Tesla was seen parked outside a temple with his family members hovering over it as the ritual was underway.

Many online responded to the ritual with some appreciating tradition and modern technology coexisting in the country.

Taking note of the ritual, Tesla Club India responded saying: “True that!!! Lovely.”

One X user said: ‘Even Tesla is not safe without nimbu or mirchi.’

Just as another humorously said ‘The Tesla Auto pilot needs support from God’s to drive on Indian Roads.’
