Not requested for 5-star COVID care: Delhi HC sends notice to Delhi Govt

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has sent a notice to the Delhi government seeking its response on the recent five-star hotel booking with the intention of converting 100 rooms into COVID care centres for judges and their families.

The court categorically denied any such request had made to the Delhi government.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government withdrew the order to book 100 rooms in the Ashoka Hotel after the court raised apprehensions.

A bench comprising, Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli, said that communication has been made to anyone in this regard and called the order and the consequent news coverage of it "very, very misleading."

The Bench stated that the projection of such an order is that the Court has taken the matter to benefit itself or the Government has done it to appease the Court.

"Issued directions to withdraw this order immediately," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia responded to a tweet citing how 100 rooms at the Ashoka Hotel will be converted into a Covid facility for the judges, other judicial members of the Delhi High Court and their families.

On Monday, the Delhi government authorised the Primus Hospital to run a Covid care facility at the Ashoka Hotel for the judges of the Delhi High Court and their family members.

The order in question was issued Sunday by the Chanakyapuri Sub-Divisional Magistrate office, invoking the powers under the Disaster Management Act 2005 and the Delhi Epidemic Diseases COVID19 Regulations 2020.
