Malda/West Bengal: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted with full confidence that no state has the power to abolish the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), nor "no power in the world" could stop the legislation, Asian News International reported.

He came down on Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of spreading lies against CAA and claiming that the law will ensure the safety of the persecuted communities in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. He said that she is spreading lies about the act among Muslim communities. He was addressing a public meeting in West Bengal's Malda.

He hit out at Mamata for her promise of abolishing CAA in West Bengal. Singh said that "no power in the world" can stop this legislation.

He said that Mamata said that she would abolish CAA. He wanted to ask her why she was lying to the people of her state when politics can be done by telling them the truth.

"No state has the power to abolish CAA, and no power in the world can stop CAA," ANI quoted Rajnath Singh.

CM Mamata had advised natives of Bengal, who had migrated for work in other states, that they must cast their vote and warned that if they didn't, the BJP government would take away their citizenships.

Singh slammed TMC, accusing the party of corruption, and claimed that there had been no corruption charges against the BJP-led NDA government in the Centre in the past ten years. He said that TMC leaders were jailed for deep involvement in corruption instances, and the Congress party is not yet different.
