Mumbai: "There is no iota of evidence with prosecution to show any contravention of order by accused persons," said a court in Mumbai while acquitting 20 Tablighi workers accused of spreading Coronavirus.

A Metropolitan Magistrate court in Andheri on Monday observed that the prosecution witnesses themselves admitted that they have not seen accused persons contravening any directions or order issued by authority.

The accused belonged to two different countries, ten of them were from Indonesia and the other ten from Kyrgyz Republic. They were slapped with charges of murder and culpable homicide not amounting to murder which were quashed by a Sessions Court.

A discharge application was filed before the Magistrate Court on September 25, 2020.

After examining the submissions by the accused and the prosecution, the Magistrate observed that both the prosecution witnesses had only strengthened the case of the accused as one of the witnesses stated that he had not noticed accused persons violating the lock-down or curfew.
