Nitish Kumars party leader calls BJP Untouchable before 1995-96

New Delhi: JD(U) leader Upendra Singh Kushwaha told BJP leaders that before 1995-96 the BJP was considered untouchable in politics.

Kushwaha was responding to BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi's jibe that Janata Dal (United) will merge with the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Kushwaha said the remark was not only objectionable, but insulting as well.

After Nitish Kumar walked out on the alliance in Bihar, leaders of both parties entered in spats.

Most recently, BJP leaders including Sushil Modi and Ravi Shankar Prasad asked Nitish Kumar to be grateful to the BJP for making him a union minister several times and state's chief minister despite he had poor strength in the assembly, according to NDTV.

Kushwaha countered the charge saying before 1995-96 no political party wanted to associate themselves with the BJP.

It was then the Samata Party's George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar came to the BJP's rescue "like angels", he said.

The BJP became touchable after both the leaders attended the Mumbai session of the BJP forming an alliance with the Samata Party.

Kushwaha wrote on Facebook that had George and Nitish not been benevolent, there would be no trace of BJP today.

Upendra Kushwaha, a former union minister and current MLC in Bihar, parted ways with Nitish Kumar forming the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, which he merged with JD(U) after he made up with the Bihar Chief Minister last year.
