Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is likely to meet the Governor a few hours from now to submit resignation, to form an alliance with the BJP.

The 72-year-old is expected to meet the Bihar Governor at 11.30 am today amid speculations that he will remove ministers of his alliance partner the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led by Lalu Yadav, and replace them with representatives from the BJP.

Nitish Kumar left the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2022 to join hands with the Opposition and form 'Mahagathbandhan'.

His frequent switching of political allegiance, five times in the recent past, earned him the moniker ‘ Paltu Kumar’ .

It is reported that the towering leader in Bihar politics will hold a meeting of his JD(U) legislators before meeting Governor today, according to NDTV.

Political circles have been abuzz with reports that Janata Dal (United) is well on the path to rejoin NDA, ditching the Opposition alliance.

Rather than Nitish Kumar step down, BJP is reportedly looking forward to replacing the RJD ministers with the BJP MLAs thus bringing about a reshuffling of the Bihar cabinet.

Reports from Bihar say that BJP MLAs have given a letter to Nitish Kumar expressing support and hammered out a seat-sharing agreement for Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, the RJD and the Congress, still reeling from the sudden turn of events, held several meeting to decide on the future course of action in the event Kumar exiting the alliance.

Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) was one of the major partners in Opposition’s INDIA bloc formed to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls.

The RJD leaders met yesterday at the residence of Rabri Devi who is the national vice-president of the party.

It is reported that the RJD leadership might claim to form the government as it reportedly hopes for the support of eight MLAs of the 'Mahagathbandhan', which will give the party required numbers.
