New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is among four Indians to feature in the Forbes’ the World's Most Powerful Women for 2023.
The 64-year-old senior leader of the ruling BJP previously served as the 28th Defence Minister from 2017 to 2019, being the second woman to hold it after Indira Gandhi, according to NDTV.
Where Forbes previously ranked her 36th in the 2022 list of the world's most powerful women, this year she was placed 32nd.
The business magazine reportedly made the choices based on the four metrics: money, media, impact and spheres of influence.
Roshni Nadar Malhotra, an Indian billionaire and philanthropist, is ranked 60 in the list. The 42-year-old has made history being the first woman to lead IT company HCL Technologies.
Malhotra, considered to be the richest woman in India, is the only child of HCL founder Shiv Nadar.
Malhotra previously entered the list several times and was ranked at 54th position in 2019 and 55th in 2020.
Soma Mondal, Chairperson of the Steel Authority of India, made it to the 70 rank being the first woman to take up the role since January 2021.
The 60-yaer-old, graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1984, has over 35 years of experience in the metal industry beginning at NALCO rising to become Director (Commercial) before joining SAIL in 2017.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who founded Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited in Bangalore, is ranked 76 in the list.
The 70-year-old was the former chairperson of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
She was featured on the Financial Times' Top 50 women in Business list in 2011.
