New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday searched several places in multiple states as part of probing the radicalisation of prisoners by a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist.

The agency combed as many as 17 places linked to the suspects in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and five other states, NDTV reported citing officials.

The Bengaluru City Police seized arms and ammunition including seven pistols, four hand grenades, one magazine and 45 live rounds, and four walkie-talkies last year.

Subsequently, a case was registered and five people were arrested which in turn led to the arrest of one more suspect.

T Nazeer, a LeT operative, allegedly radicalised these five people in the central jail in Bengaluru.

Another accused in the case Junaid Ahmed is currently on the run, according to the report.

Nazeer, serving life sentence since 2013 in Central Prison in Bengaluru, came in contact with others in the case when they were all lodged in Bengaluru Prison in 2017.

After taking over the case in October last year, the NIA carried out subsequently raids.
