Ranveer Singh's new movie 'Jayeshbhai Jordaar' has dropped its trailer, and it is shedding light on India's problematic obsession with wanting a boy child. The actor plays the titular character who is running from his family to protect his unborn girl child.

The important message and horrific realities of the patriarchal society are conveyed using humour and a subtle mood. Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah are playing Ranveer's parents, villains, and representatives of the problematic world.

The trailer starts with a young girl complaining to the leader of the panchayat about alcohol-intoxicated men cat-calling school children. Played by Irani, the sarpanch says that fragrant soap needs to be banned so that men are not aroused by the scent on girls.

Soon the main plot is revealed - the sarpanch wants a grandson to become his hire after his son. Jayesh and his wife Shalini already have a daughter, and his parents are determined to abort the second child if it is a girl. To save the child, the young couple flees the village but is pursued relentlessly.

The female infanticide-obsessed pursuers are resorting to violence to prevent another girlchild from being born. When they are closing in to attack Shalini, Jayesh threatens to castrate himself. The trailer shows how much Indian society is still obsessed with having an heir to the family.

The movie is set to release on 13 May 2022.
