Varun Gandhi speaking to the sadhu at the event in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit

Pilibhit: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi on Monday advised party members not to disturb a sadhu (monk) since no one knows when he will become a Chief Minister.

The video of the incident surfaced online with people interpreting that Varun Gandhi who is known for openly criticising his own party took a dig at the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is also the Gorakshpeethadheeshwar of Gorakshpeeth. Adityanath is always in a sadhu's dress.

In the recent incident, the sadhu was standing near Varun Gandhi when the sadhu's phone rang. The sadhu disconnected the call but the MP insisted that he take the call. "Maharaj-ji, take the call. What difference will it make? Probably you are getting some important call,” he said to the sadhu.

He also stopped workers from asking the sadhu to switch it off.

"Please do not stop him, never know when 'maharaaj ji' will become the CM. Then what will happen to us?" Gandhi joked.

The incident took place while Gandhi was addressing the BJP workers in his constituency in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit.
