Represntational.

Mumbai: The Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) seized about 60 kg of mephedrone drugs worth Rs 120 crore in Mumbai in a massive drug haul on Thursday. The agency arrested two, and one of them is a former Air India pilot, NDTV reported.

Earlier this week, another drug bust happened in Gujarat's Jamnagar, where four people were arrested. Both Mumbai and Gujara haul was part of a larger network.

The arrested ex-pilot Sohail Gaffar, who once worked with Air India, was trained in the United States, and he allegedly quit his job citing health issues.

NCB officials said that the drug cartel had sold 225 kg of mephedrone, a party drug, in the market, and 60 kg of it was seized on Thursday. The drug bust happened after a tip-off by the naval intelligence in Jamnagar.

Massive quantities of drugs were seized in Gujarat earlier this year. When 200 kg of mephedrone drugs were seized in Vadodara in August, 260 kg of drugs were caught from Kandla port in April.

In September 2021, 3000 kg of drugs worth Rs 21,000 crore was sized from Mundra port. It was one of the largest drug busts ever.
