‘Muslims not allowed’: BJP councillor halts house work in Uttarakhand
text_fieldsUttarakhand: In Udham Singh Nagar district, a Muslim family’s house construction was allegedly stopped by a Bharatiya Janata Party councillor and his associates. The incident took place in Ward 31 of Rudrapur, at Eshwari Alliance Colony, where local councillor Sachin Munjal and his group obstructed the construction of a house belonging to Asim Ansari.
The group reportedly threatened that Muslims would not be allowed to build houses or reside in the area. Ansari had begun construction only recently on land he had legally purchased and registered in 2020.
According to the complaint, a group led by councillor Sachin Munjal and Vijay Arora reached the site and halted the work, shouting that Muslims would not be permitted to live in the locality. They also allegedly tried to force Ansari to sell the land at a low price and threatened to kill him if he refused.
Ansari accused the councillor of attempting to incite communal tensions by mobilising local residents. He further told police that he was assaulted by a group of five to ten people led by the councillor. He added that around 150 Muslim families have been living in the same colony for years, and that he alone was being targeted.
Ansari has filed a complaint with the police.
“Is being a Muslim a crime? I bought this land with my hard-earned money. I have complete faith in the Constitution and the law,” he told the media.
