Udupi: Three Muslim girl students involved in the shooting of a restroom video at a private paramedical college have acquired bail from the First Additional Civil court in a suo motu case filed by the police who registered an FIR after pressure from right-wing groups.

The First Class Additional Civil Judge of Udupi and the Judicial Magistrate of First Class (JMFC) court, Judge Shyam Prakash, has granted conditional bail to three Muslim students.

The accused students, who were represented by Advocate Asadullah Katpadi during the court proceedings, have been required to submit a bond amount of Rs 20,000 each.

The incident came to light when Udupi police registered a suo motu case, eight days after the alleged incident took place at the Netra Jyothi College of Optometry and Paramedical Science.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the students were attempting to film one of their friends on July 18th. However, inadvertently, a student from another stream ended up being recorded in the restroom.

As part of the bail conditions, the students have been ordered to cooperate fully with the investigating officers, appear before the court on the day of the trial, and comply with all conditions imposed by the court.

The case has generated controversy and sparked protests in Udupi, with the BJP and its student wing Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) alleging a bigger conspiracy behind the incident. They have demanded stringent action against the three students and the college administration.
