Kolkata: Muslim owners of a brick kiln in Murshidabad district of West Bengal have stepped in to help out a Hindu couple who had no money for their wedding, India Today reported.

The rare display of communal harmony comes just as the city is still smouldering from riots following the enactment of the Waqf Amendment Act.

The 20-year-old groom, Simul, and the 18-year-old bride, Shiuli are from Birbhum's Murarai and work at the Maria Brick Kiln.

Nevertheless the couple were together for five years, their families could not pull off a wedding ceremony due to wedding expenses.

It was then the Muslim owners, employers came together to help them arrange the wedding according to Hindu rituals.

The couple's colleagues said Simul and Shiuli working at the kiln fell in love and wanted to marry but they had no money.

Other workers informed the owners about the couple’s helplessness.

Mustafa Sheikh, a partner of the kiln owner, offered to arrange the marriage.

‘We wanted to help them, so we arranged the wedding according to Hindu customs,’ Sheikh told India Today TV.

Overwhelmed by the generosity, the families of the bride and groom reportedly said: ‘We never thought we'd receive such a beautiful arrangement.’

The wedding took place at a temple in the Kalitala area of Domkal according to Hindu rituals.

The kiln owners and some Muslim youths from the village arranged food, decorations, and gifts.
