Murder accused cow vigilante’s video is what triggered communal violence in Haryana
text_fieldsGurgaon: Despite clear warnings from the Police that there would be no weapons to be displayed during the Brijmandal Jalabhishek Yatra, what unfolded during the Yatra is exactly against the assurance given by the Hindu groups that ended up torching a mosque and killing six people, including an Imam of the attacked mosque in Haryana.
The police said that sensitive messages and videos had been widely shared on social media after the Hindu and Muslim groups agreed to hold the Yatra in police mediation.
One such video was posted by self-proclaimed cow vigilante, Monu Manesar, who had a history of violence, having been accused in the murders of two men in Bhiwani earlier that year. In the video, Monu boldly declared his intention to participate in the yatra, accompanied by his team, which alarmed and angered the local population.
The yatra, which has been held for three years, had previously been free of weapons, and this was a key concern raised during the meeting between the Nuh police, district officials, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind representatives, and area residents. Despite the police's request to avoid weapons, videos like Monu's sparked apprehension and fear among the people.
As tensions mounted, 17 FIRs were filed, and over 100 individuals were detained as part of an extensive investigation by the Nuh Police. The authorities also began reviewing gun licenses in the region, aiming to take necessary action against those who violated the prohibition on weapons.
While Bajrang Dal members defended Monu, stating that the yatra represented the Hindu community, other Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind members and local residents remained troubled by his involvement, given his past actions.
As the situation remains delicate, authorities are closely monitoring developments to ensure peace is maintained in the region. The administration faced criticism for not recognizing the potential risks associated with the controversial video and the messages that circulated afterwards, contributing to the escalation of tensions.
