Mumbai Police demand good behaviour bond from Arnab Goswami

The Mumbai Police has issued a show-cause notice to Republic TV Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami demanding "security for good behaviour" under Section 108 of the CRPC.

The notice was issued as part of the ongoing case against Goswami regarding alleged communal and provocative remarks made on his show during the Palgharlynchings earlier this year.

Goswami has been ordered to appear before the Special Executive Magistrate and the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Worli by 4 PM today. The notice, issued by AC Sudhir Jambavdekar demands Goswami furnish a reason why he should not furnish a bond for good behaviour which could amount up to 10 lakhs.

In his show "Pucchta Hai Bharat", Goswami had allegedly made comments on the religion of the accused and the motive for killings. A case was registered against him for communalising the issue and the first show cause notice was issued by Mumbai Police on 14 October.

This was termed as "spiteful" by Republic TV, who claimed undue persecution despite a Supreme Court order staying any moves against them regarding the Palghar and Bandhra FIRs.

This latest move comes shortly after Goswami received bail in the suicide abetment case for which he was remanded to judicial custody. The journalist was arrested from his home on 4 November.

Currently the Mumbai Police and Republic TV are engaged in a scuffle on multiple fronts, including the suicide abetment case, the TRP scam case as well as an FIR filed by the police against Republic TV for inciting disaffection amongst the police.
