MP's 'total boycott' comment against its no Hindu-Muslim stand, BJP seeks explanation from Verma

New Delhi: The BJP central leadership is said to have asked for an explanation from its West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma over his controversial remark made during the 'Virat Hindu Sabha' organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's local unit in Delhi.

Verma allegedly called for a 'total boycott' of the Muslim community without naming the community, which the Central leadership views as 'a wrong message.'

The party sources said that Verma's comment, even though he did not name the Muslim, is against the party's stand which has been sent to all leaders with the strict instruction that they should not, in any case, make any comment which could be interpreted as divisive. The BJP is on a stand that it should not be caught in a Hindu-Muslim narrative, the party sources said.

The BJP sources have also said that party chief JP Nadda had asked for an explanation from Parvesh Verma over his 'total boycott' comment but he has denied receiving any of such a show cause notice from his chief, reported The New Indian Express.

The TIE reported as said by a BJP leader from Delhi that Verma was wrong by making such a comment, particularly at a time when the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is engaging with the Muslim leadership as part of its objective of national integrity. The BJP leader said that such divisive comments would also damage the narrative on development that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to create.

The leader also acknowledged the damage borne by the party in Delhi where there had a lot about Hindu-Muslim in 2020 before assembly polls only to realise that the party had lost all the seats even in West Delhi.

Earlier, the BJP had also asked its youth wing chief and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who urged the Hindus to dream big and re-convert those people who had left Hinduism for Islam and Christianity, to withdraw his remarks.
