Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Priyanka Chaturvedi issued a 'suspension of business' notice under Rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha to discuss the ongoing investigations into the Television Rating Points scandal which broke in October 2020.

"In a WhatsApp chat records of an Editor-in-Chief of a news channel, and formal CEO of Rating agency shared extremely sensitive classified military information related to national security which could have been known only to the members of the cabinet committee on security, and it is a clear violation of the National Security Act," she said, as reported by Republic TV.

Earlier, Chaturvedi had also appealed to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar to take urgent measure to make TRP rating systems more transparent.

The Mumbai Police is currently investigating multiple channels for manipulating TRP ratings, including India Today, Republic TV and Fakht Marathi. Leaked WhatsApp chat transcripts that came out during investigations show Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and former BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta allegedly discussing the manipulation of TRPs. The chats also included references to sensitive information of national importance such as Pulwama attack and Balakot strikes which sparked a controversy across the nation.
