Bhopal: The state went to by-polls after 25 MLAs of the erstwhile Congress government crossed over to the BJP in March 2020.

Subsequently, Kamal Nath's 15-month-old government sagged. The other three seats in the polls were left vacant by deaths of sitting lawmakers.

BJP currently holds 107 seats in the Assembly, requiring nine more to stay in power.

As for Congress, it is but a gargantuan task to come to power winning 28 seats.

More important, political ambitions of leaders including Kamal Nath of the Congress, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Narendra Singh Tomar of the BJP are at stake.
