Mortal remains of Indian killed in Kuwait attack to arrive Friday: MEA

New Delhi: The mortal remains of an Indian national killed in an attack on Kuwait International Airport are expected to arrive in India on June 5, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.
Aseem R Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf), MEA, said during an inter-ministerial briefing on the West Asia situation that the Indian mission is in close contact with the family of the deceased and is coordinating with local authorities in Kuwait.
“Yesterday, in an attack on Kuwait International Airport, an Indian national unfortunately lost his life. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” Mahajan said.
He added that 13 Indian nationals were injured in the attack and are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Kuwait. The Indian mission is extending all necessary assistance to the injured and remains in constant touch with local authorities.
The attack, which took place on Wednesday, came amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
Earlier, another Indian national had been killed in Kuwait during Iranian strikes on a power and water desalination plant on March 30.
Mahajan said the MEA continues to closely monitor developments in the Gulf and West Asia region, with Indian missions actively engaged with the expatriate community.
He noted that missions regularly interact with Indian community associations, organisations, professional groups, and companies to address concerns.
On travel advisories, he said Iran’s airspace remains partially open. Still, Indian nationals have been advised to avoid travelling to Iran, and those already present have been urged to leave with embassy support.
So far, the Indian embassy in Tehran has facilitated the evacuation of 2,557 Indian nationals through land border routes.
He also added that Israel’s airspace is open and limited flight operations have resumed to destinations in the region, which can be used for onward travel to India.
