New Delhi: Following the detection of monkeypox on a man in Delhi who has no history of foreign travel, the Union government held a high-level review meeting on Sunday. The Delhi case became the fourth in the country after three were reported in Kerala, PTI reported.

According to sources, the meeting was chaired by the Directorate General of Health Sciences (DGHS) and attended by officials from the Health ministry, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and ICMR, among others.

They said that the Delhi patient has been housed in a designated isolation centre in the Lok Nayak Hospital and is recovering at the moment. However, he has attended a stag party recently in Himachal Pradesh. He was put in isolation three days ago after he showed symptoms.

His samples came positive on Saturday after it was sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune, Union Health Ministry sources added.

Further, the health ministry said in a statement that his close contacts were identified and were put in quarantine as per ministry guidelines.

Earlier, three monkeypox cases were reported in Kerala. Also, the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Saturday declared monkeypox a global public health emergency of international concern.
