New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government's economic management, warning that India could be heading towards a serious economic crisis if urgent corrective measures are not taken.

In a post on X, Swamy highlighted that the Indian economy has been steadily weakening since 2020 and has lost much of the strength that once supported its growth. According to him, the country is now facing a dangerous situation that requires immediate and far-reaching economic reforms.

The BJP veteran expressed concern that the absence of decisive policy interventions could result in a major economic setback in the coming months. He warned that the consequences of continued inaction may become visible as early as October this year, raising fears of a significant downturn.

Swamy also targeted the leadership of the country's economic administration. He suggested that the Prime Minister lacks a proper understanding of the economic challenges confronting the nation and alleged that the Finance Ministry is in a state of confusion. In his assessment, the government's handling of economic affairs has failed to respond effectively to mounting problems.

The former Union minister further cautioned that India risks damaging its international reputation if current trends continue. He slammed that the country could increasingly be viewed as being guided by individuals incapable of managing a complex modern economy, a development he said would undermine India's standing on the global stage.

Calling for urgent intervention, Swamy urged patriotic economists and scholars to step forward with solutions to address the crisis. His remarks amount to one of the strongest criticisms yet from a senior BJP figure against the Modi government's economic policies and governance, and have already triggered discussion in political circles about the direction of the Indian economy and the need for immediate corrective action.

“India’s declining economy. Since year 2020 it has been losing strength. A collapse this year in October may happen if strict economic reforms are not introduced. Modi is clueless and Finance Ministry is bewildered. Our Nation may soon be seen internationally as being led of economist clowns. Time for our patriotic scholars to suggest the way out,” read Swamy’s post.
