Washington: The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation stated that a mass shooting occurred in a rural house in Caswell County, North Carolina, resulting in several deaths.

Just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday (local time), police responded to a service call. Deputies arriving on the scene found multiple people who had been shot, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said in a release, IANS reported.

One person was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound, and there are multiple other fatalities, the release said.

Law enforcement officers are still on the scene processing evidence and conducting interviews, reports Xinhua news agency.

Three family members are dead, including the suspected shooter, and a fourth relative was hospitalised, according to a local report quoting Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden.

The United States has been plagued by gun violence for decades, and hundreds of mass shootings are reported each year.

Earlier on August 2, one person was killed and five others injured in a neighbourhood shooting in Portland, the US state of Oregon.

At 3:33 a.m. local time, Portland police officers assigned to North Precinct responded to a report of a shooting in the 5800 block of Northeast Alberta Street, the local government release said.

When they arrived, they found two victims with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were transported to the hospital by ambulance. A short time later, officers learned that four additional victims had arrived at local hospitals by private vehicles, it added.

An adult male later died at the hospital, while the other five injured have been treated and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the release said, adding that a teenage juvenile is among the injured.

On August 1, three people were killed and seven others injured in a shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, a city in the US state of Idaho.
