New Delhi: Manipuri musician Chonngtham Vikram Singh died from massive internal bleeding caused by severe trauma to his chest and abdomen, according to the post-mortem report released on Thursday.

The 54-year-old allegedly sustained the fatal injuries after being attacked by a group of men in Kilokari village on Sunday when he confronted them over noise outside his residence.

A senior police officer said the attackers allegedly kicked Singh repeatedly on his chest and abdomen after he had fallen to the ground. The post-mortem examination later confirmed the extent and severity of the injuries sustained during the assault.

Dr Sudhir Gupta, Chief of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS, said the musician died following severe physical assault to his chest and abdomen, which led to extensive internal bleeding, The New Indian Express reported.

The AIIMS report documented fractures to the first through 11th ribs on the left side and the sixth through ninth ribs on the right side. Bleeding and blood clots were found around the fractured areas, while the examination also revealed a laceration to the spleen.

Police said Singh was taken to Holy Family Hospital at around 12:25 am following the assault and reached the facility at approximately 1:30 am. Although he initially showed signs of improvement after treatment, his condition later deteriorated after he suffered a haemorrhage. He was declared dead at around 6:32 am.
