Manipur Rifles jawan killed in firing by armed individuals in Imphal West
text_fieldsImphal: As violence continue in the state, a Manipur Rifles jawan was killed in firing between security forces and armed individuals in Senjam Chirang, Imphal West district here on Thursday.
The 47-year-old Tourangbam Rishikumar of Wangjing Lamding Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district succumbed to the bullet injury in the head, The Indian Express reported.
He died at a private hospital in Imphal late in the evening. During the heavy exchange, another person also sustained injuries, police said.
Firing was reported from the areas of Koutruk, Haraothel and Senjam Chirang early on Thursday morning.
Police reported that a mob had stolen arms and ammunition from the the armoury of the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) and police outposts in Bishnupur district.
Authorities are yet to count how many weapons and ammunition have been taken away.
Meanwhile, police said security forces stopped another attempt to steal weapons and ammunitions at the 7 Manipur Rifles and 2 Manipur Rifles battalions and at a few police outposts in Imphal East district.
