New Delhi: In Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar police outpost, a man was found hanging on May 16. The person was reportedly summoned by the police for questioning on a case of sexual assault, The Wire reported.

The family of the deceased, Yogesh Kumar, who worked in a local bakery, accused the police of murdering him. Kumar’s brother alleged that the policeman demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to release him from custody.

According to initial information from police, Kumar committed suicide, but they have started an investigation to find all the details of his death. Police had suspended all the officers stationed at the Chipiyana police outpost in Bisrakh, where the incident was reported. They said that the allegations by his family were taken into account.

Police also registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint registered by Kumar’s family, but the details of the same are yet to be known.

It was on May 15 Kumar was summoned to the outpost for questioning rape allegations levelled by a female colleague of his at the bakery. She had filed a complaint against him, according to the police.

According to Kumar’s brother Jitendra, police picked up Kumar on May 15 and demanded Rs 5 lakh as a bribe to release him. However, Jitendra paid the officers Rs 50,000 and an additional Rs 1,000 in liquor, but they asked him to pay the remaining Rs 4.5 lakh the following day. But even after they promised to set him free the next day, they killed and hanged him.

According to DCP Central Noida, Suniti, the deceased Kumar originally hailed from Khair in Aligarh.
