New Delhi: A Muslim man was arrested by the Ghaziabad police on Tuesday for allegedly making objectionable comments against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Wasim, is a resident of Meerut, staying on rented premises in Masoori village.

The police arrested Wasim after a video went viral on social media in which he was purportedly seen responding to a YouTuber’s questions on the governments led by Yogi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

When asked if hooliganism has ended in the state, the man allegedly said, “Yogi himself is a goon, there are many FIRs against him. Look at his history, I am saying this, you can file a case against me.”

The police said that the man’s remarks aimed to “hurt religious sentiments”.

“Taking cognizance of the fact that a video was going viral on social media on 22.12.2023, in which a person was giving an inflammatory speech taking the name of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Government with the aim of hurting religious sentiments and creating hysteria,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Naresh Kumar said, reports the Indian Express.

“Case was registered under relevant sections. The accused was arrested on January 2. Further legal action is being taken,” the ACP added.
