Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday filed her nomination papers for the September 30 Bhabanipur assembly by-poll. The TMC supremo, who lost the election in Nandigram, has to win this by-poll to retain the chief minister's post.

Banerjee is a resident of Bhabanipur and had won the seat twice in 2011 and 2016.

The BJP has fielded city lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal, who is the lawyer of post poll violence cases in West Bengal while Left Front fielded Srijib Biswas. The BJP on Friday announced three candidates for the bypolls. Milan Ghosh will contest from Samserganj and Sujit Das has been fielded from Jangipur by the saffron party.

Priyanka Tibrewal graduated from Delhi University and studied law from Calcutta University. She practices at the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court. She also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Assumption University, Thailand.

West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said that the party will fight the bypolls with its fullest strength and confidently added that he is expecting victory in all the three assembly seats. He also claimed that Banerjee will face another defeat in Bhabanipur like Nandigram.

The result will be declared on October 3.

Mamata had contested from Nandigram in the April-May assembly poll this year against BJP leader and her former protege Suvendu Adhikari and lost. After her defeat in Nandigram, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, state cabinet minister and TMC MLA from Bhabanipur, vacated the seat to facilitate her return to the assembly from there.
