Kolkata: Senior BJP leader MP Dilip Ghosh accused Mamata Banerjee of corrupting both Islam and Hinduism by offering namaaz and attending iftaar parties, despite being a Brahmin.

Speaking at India Today Conclave 2022, the national vice-president of BJP Tuesday Dilip Ghosh said Mamata Banerjee eats to her fill at iftaar parties and observes namaaz and roza (fasting), although she is from a Hindu Brahmin family, thus corrupting both Islam and Hinduism, he said.

As for Nurpur Sharma row, Ghosh said he didn't know how many people died after her statement.

The world, he said, is afraid to speak against the ideology behind the violence that killed hundreds in the riots before independence.

If Nupur Sharma was wrong in her comments, there should have been logical arguments on public TV, rather than taking out the sword, he said.

The belief in Hinduism, he said, still continues in 100 crore Hindus in the country, despite thousands having been killed over the ages.
