Mamata Banerjee takes jibe at Modi, says PMs photo must be put on COVID-19 death certificates too

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee questioned the use of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photographs on vaccination certificates at a press conference on Thursday.

"You made your photo compulsory on Covid vaccination certificates. Now put it on death certificates too" she said.

Mamata Banerjee accused the Centre of not providing adequate Covid-19 vaccines to West Bengal despite a spike in cases. She also urged Modi not to discriminate among the states while allocating vaccine doses.

She announced that the state government will not be able to resume local train services for the public until more people are vaccinated in rural areas.

Meanwhile. West Bengal government has issued a new order on Thursday reducing night curfew during lockdown to six hours, from 11 pm to 5 am. Earlier, the night curfew was for eight hours, from 9 pm to 5 am.

In addition, the West Bengal government also extended lockdown in the state till August 30 with certain relaxations.

On account of the pandemic, Mamata Banerjee has also announced the release of 73 convicts above the age of 55 years who were sentenced to life imprisonment from prison on humanitarian grounds Earlier, 63 convicts were released prematurely in the state due to Covid-19.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also announced another round of her government's 'Duare Sarkar' camps. These will be organised between August 16 and September 15.

Meanwhile,700 fresh Covid cases were reported in the state on Wednesday taking the total tally to 15,35,699, as per the bulletin issued by the health department. The state currently has 10,163 active cases.
