Mohit Goel, the maker of the smartphone Freedom 251, claimed to be the cheapest smartphone, was arrested with Sumit Yadav and Vinit Kumar for allegedly threatening a rape survivor for a year in Dwarka. Mohit Goel had launched smartphones under the Government of India's Digital India Programme at cheap rates. These phones were called Freedom 251. Goel was earlier named in 48 cases of fraud. Though arrested, he was later released on bail.

Wanting to take revenge on the rape accused Vikas Mittal, they allegedly posed as the rapist and threatened the survivor, the police said. The matter came forth in August 2020 after the complainant approached the police with a complaint that the accused was threatening her with dire consequences. Though Mittal was arrested from IGI airport last year, the victim was again threatened by unidentified people near the Civil Lines metro station a month later. A case was filed based on the fresh threat with the help of an eyewitness. The eyewitness was also targeted and attacked later.

The case was transferred to the Delhi Police's Crime Branch as per the directive of the Supreme Court last year. The police identified the callers based on the threat calls but failed to nab them as they kept changing locations. While Kumar was arrested from Gurgaon, Goel was arrested from Noida and Yadav from Chandigarh. Kumar confessed to harassing the victim and working with Yadav and Goel.

Goel is the rape accused Mittal's brother-in-law. The officer explained that after a business dispute, Goel wanted revenge and planned to get him arrested by threatening the victim posing as Mittal.

"During interrogation, accused Goel told police that he suspected Mittal behind his previous arrests and wanted to take revenge. So hatched a conspiracy and roped in his employees Yadav and Kumar," the officer added.
