New Delhi: A major fire on Friday night in Delhi's Gokalpuri had claimed seven lives, authorities informed. The Delhi Fire Service department has said that the fire was brought under control during the night have recovered seven bodies from the site, NDTV reported.

The fire had burnt 60 huts to ashes.

The department said that 13 fire engines were dispatched to tend the fires after they were informed about the incident.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police North East Delhi Devesh Kumar Mahla said that the information on fire was received at 1 in the morning, and police, as well as the fire department, reached the spot. He added that forces could douse the fire entirely only around 4 am.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that he had heard the sad news early Saturday morning. He will go to the spot and meet the affected people in person.
