Lucknow: Two women died and at least 15 people were pulled out of debris after a multi-storey building collapsed in the Hazratganj area in Lucknow on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Samajwadi Party spokesperson Abbas Haider's wife Uzma Haider and mother Begum Haider.

The 87-year-old Begum Haider was pulled out on Wednesday morning but she was declared dead at a hospital, NDTV reported.

Abbas Haider's wife, 30, also died at a civil hospital, PTI reported quoting Health Minister Brajesh Pathak.

Two more people are believed to be remaining trapped in the debris of Alaya Apartment, according to the report.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked a three-member committee to probe and submit a report on the incident within a week.

The Lucknow administration has sued the builder and owners of the multi-storey building, a government statement said.

Police reportedly detained Nawazish, the son of former minister and SP MLA Shahid Manzoor, in connection with the fatal building collapse.

Meerut SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said the collapsed apartment is said to have been sold by him.

Alongside, Lucknow divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob asked Lucknow Development Authority to charge the building owners Mohammad Tareef, Nawazish Shahid and Yazdan Builders.

Roshan Jacob directed officials to inspect other buildings raised by Yazdan Builders in Lucknow city and demolish them if they are found to be illegal and of poor quality.
