text_fieldsNew Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, communicated to House members about the formation of a "high-powered committee" aimed at reviewing security aspects within the Parliament complex, ensuring preventive measures against a recurrence of the December 13 incident.
Birla emphasised the need for an action plan to prevent such occurrences in the future, stating, "In addition, I have also constituted a High Powered Committee which will review various aspects of security in the Parliament Complex and formulate a concrete action plan to ensure that such incidents do not recur," in a letter addressed to Lok Sabha members.
He mentioned that the report from the high-level inquiry committee established by the Union Home Ministry regarding the incident would be shared with the House shortly.
The incident occurred on December 13 during the afternoon session when two individuals entered the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, carrying canisters emitting yellow smoke. MPs present during the Zero Hour swiftly apprehended the intruders, preventing any untoward incident.
Additionally, two more individuals, including a woman, were apprehended for staging a demonstration outside the Parliament complex.
The development follows heightened concerns regarding the security lapses within the Parliament premises, prompting proactive measures and the establishment of a specialised committee to address and mitigate such potential security threats.
