A lesbian couple hailing from West Bengal recently got married in a traditional ceremony at a temple situated in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district.

Jayashree Rahul (28) and Rakhi Das (23), originally from South 24 Parganas district, are employed in an orchestra in Deoria, where they found love in each other's company.

The couple's journey toward marriage encountered hurdles initially. According to Munna Pal, the head of the orchestra where the two women work, they faced rejection when attempting to wed at the Dirgeshwarnath temple in Deoria due to a lack of authorisation from higher authorities.

Despite this setback, undeterred by the refusal, Jayashree and Rakhi, along with their supporters, pursued an alternate route. They secured a notarised affidavit for their marriage and proceeded to Bhagada Bhavani temple in Majhauliraj, where they exchanged garlands in the presence of the temple priest.

Pal shared the couple's determination and effort, stating, "They obtained a notarised affidavit for marriage and then went to Bhagada Bhawani temple... They exchanged garlands in the presence of the temple priest."

Following their marriage, the couple released a statement expressing their love story's origin and the challenges they faced, ultimately reinforcing their commitment to each other. The statement emphasises their unwavering dedication despite the obstacles encountered along their journey.
