Ladakh MP calls out Maruti for destroying "fragile ecosystem"
text_fieldsLadakh: Lok Sabha MP from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, criticised Martui for destroying the "fragile ecosystem for commercial gain" by shooting an ad in a valley.
He shared the video on Twitter and wrote, "I condemn @Maruti_Corp's irresponsible advertisement act. The fragile ecosystem should not be destroyed for the sake of commercial gain. I urge the administration to halt the shooting & take legal action as necessary. Let's preserve the unique beauty of Ladakh for future gen."
The video showed a car driving through the river stream and a scenic backdrop. The production crew is also seen in the video trying to capture the car.
The tweet has received mixed reactions. Those who supported the MP said that there should be tougher rules and the video Maruti is trying to make can be digitally created.
One user said that they see no harm and asked, "Didn't the local authorities know this before giving permission? They also sarcastically wrote, "Stop all flights to Leh: exhaust gases are bad for a fragile ecosystem. Stop all diesel vehicles: exhaust gases are bad for Ladakh's fragile ecosystem." Another user pointed out that the local government has allowed more industries to set up plants in Ladakh. Another spoke about the role tourism plays in Ladakh's economy.
