K'tka BJP MLA calls Tipu Sultan a Muslim 'Gunda', gets threat letter
text_fieldsBengaluru: Karnataka BJP MLA KS Eshwarappa, who is known for controversial statements, once again drew criticism for calling the erstwhile king of Mysore and fear of British occupants, Tipu Sultan, the Muslim goon or Gunda.
When his statements became a sore for many, particularly among the Muslim community for linking the minority to the fuming tension over the featuring of Hindutva icon VD Savarkar and Tipu Sultan on the Independence Day banners, Eshwarappa tried to downplay the situation.
The BJP leader said he did not call all Muslim Gunda.
Meanwhile, Eshwarappa filed a case with the police over an alleged threat letter, which said that if he repeated calling Tipu Sultan a 'Gunda', his tongue will be cut off.
The alleged letter was addressed to his residence. Responding to the letter, the BJP MLA said he was not scared of such threats, and threatened with police action.
"I want to tell elders of the Muslim community, I'm not saying all Muslims are gundas. Elders of the Muslim community have made efforts for peace in the past, I want to tell them to advise the youth who are indulging in gundaism, if not the government will act and they should be ready to face it," he stated.
