Bengaluru : On Saturday, Congress leader C.M. Ibrahim, a member of Karnataka's Legislative Council and a key member of the party, resigned from his membership in the party.

According to Ibrahim, anyone with self-respect cannot stay in the party. "I will reveal my move in two days. The Congress is a sinking ship. What happened in Punjab will also happen in Karnataka," he said.

In regards to joining the JD(S), he stated he would speak with former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

In the resignation letter he addressed to AICC President Sonia Gandhi, Ibrahim noted that he had written her several letters regarding his grievances during the past 12 years. "Though you had indeed replied that you will take necessary remedial measures, but so far I do not see any changes," he added

In an election for the position of Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council, Ibrahim claimed he would have won with the backing of 18 members of the Legislative Council..

It is unfortunate that B.K. Hariprasad was nominated as the opposition leader. He called him the most junior council member.

Ibrahim claimed that whenever he raised issues of development and workings of the party, he did not receive a proper response

He wrote that as a senior member of the party, he wasn't able to meet Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi so that he could explain the facts to them.

"The Congress will not be affected by Ibrahim's resignation. Even if I quit, it will have no effect on Congress," Siddaramaiah told reporters at Kalaburagi airport.
