Kolkata: The alleged public humiliation of three people in Kolkata has taken a new turn, with a video purportedly showing the accused being marched through the streets with ropes tied around their waists by police emerging a day after the incident sparked widespread criticism in West Bengal.

A senior police officer said the accused were being taken to the location for a crime scene reconstruction. The Kolkata Police have not issued an official statement on the reported parade.

The incident occurred on October 25 in the Basundhara Park area under Sarsuna police station limits, after an 18-year-old boy was allegedly caught kissing a 13-year-old girl. The girl’s maternal uncle spotted the teenagers together and alerted her father and another relative.

The girl’s male relatives allegedly took her away, dragged the teenager and his friend into their house and assaulted them. They then forced the 18-year-old to call his father to the spot.

When the father arrived and pleaded for his son to be spared, the attackers allegedly assaulted him and threatened to kill all three. According to the police, the girl’s family members then handed him a firearm and gave him a disturbing ultimatum: shoot his own son or walk naked for around 50 metres along the lane outside their house.

The girl’s father, mother and maternal uncle have been arrested in connection with the incident. Further investigation is underway.
