Khalistan flags hung over Himachal Assembly gate, walls

CHANDIGARH: On Sunday morning, Khalistan flags were seen draped over the main gate and boundary walls of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly at Dharamshala with pro-Khalistani symbols and 'Khalistan' written in Punjabi on the walls. The flags and symbols were later removed by the officials and administratives.

Sources have mentioned that there was a lack of CCTV cameras outside the periphery wall of the complex. They also said that security guards were not present at the boundary, which may have prompted the miscreants to commit such a crime.

Khushal Sharma, the Superintendent of Police of Kangra said that this incident might have happened late at night or early in the morning today. "We have removed the Khalistan flags from the Vidhan Sabha gate. A case has been registered and investigation is going on," he added.

According to The New Indian Express report, sources said that although the police had advised the assembly secretariat to install CCTV cameras around the outer periphery of Assembly complex, they have not been installed till date. A provision will be made to install the CCTV cameras from the Smart City funds.

An official said that the speaker and other officials have also been informed about the incident.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, the leader of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) called for a hoisting of a Khalistani flag in Shimla last month. Responding to this threat, Anti-Terrorist Front of India leader burnt the Khalistani flag and raised slogans against the demands of Khalistan outside the deputy commissioner's office.
