Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is said to be considering a complete lockdown from May 8 to May 16 as the COVID cases in the State have been shown no respite in the last few days.

Only essential services would be allowed during this period. Strict actions will be taken against people who are roaming around unnecessarily, without valid reasons.

"Kerala is going through a serious situation with COVID spreading rapidly in the state. The test positivity rate is not coming down. The situation calls for imposing more restrictions in the state": said Kerala's chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday.

The state recorded its highest single-day rise of 41,953 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday from 1, 63,321 samples tested.
