Kerala man in US booked for insulting Indian flag on Facebook

Kochi: A Keralite residing in the United States has been booked for allegedly insulting the national flag in a Facebook post, police said on Saturday.
Edathala Police registered a case against Albichan Muringayil, reportedly from Kottayam, on Friday following a complaint by local BJP functionary Anoop. According to the complaint, the accused shared a post on Facebook on Independence Day containing derogatory remarks about the national flag.
“The accused, who currently lives in the US, has several posts on Facebook insulting India, including the national pledge,” a senior police officer said. Muringayil was booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act. The case is expected to be handed over to the Cyber Police for further investigation.
