Kerala's Chalakudy-Valparai bus route witnessed a chase between a public transport vehicle and a furious wild elephant. The driver, Ambhujakshan, reversed the vehicle for 8 km in a desperate attempt to save passengers.

The video shared by Asianet News shows that the elephant kept walking toward the bus despite it being backed up. Passengers are also heard hoping that the wild animal will leave the bus alone and take the muddy route on the left side. There were over 40 passengers on the bus.

The incident took place at 9 am on Tuesday. The bus was reversed from Ambalapara to Anakkayam because there was no space to turn it on the narrow road. At the Anakkayam area, the elephant went into the forest, reported Manoramaonline.

The lone tusker has been frequenting the area for over two years. Forest officials said the animal has been in musth, a period of rising reproductive hormones, for a month now. This has made him more aggressive. It attacked a jeep of the Forest Department a few days ago.
