Bengaluru: BJP has won both Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Sira in the by-election. Muniratna won in RR Nagar with a margin of 57,672 votes, while in Sira Dr. Rajesh Gowda exceeded T B Jayachandra of Congress by about 13,000 votes.

Counting of votes for the by elections began at 8:30am on Tuesday, November 3.The voter turnout in Sira was fairly high, at 82.31% and was poor in RR Nagar with 45.25%.

Since then CM Yediyurappa expressed confidence in winning both seats. However, Congress too, seemed confident in a victory.

"We are confident we are going to win both seats."said KPCC President DK Shivakumar. Apart from this, the exit polls, too, predicted a BJP sweep in both places.

While BJP won with a large margin in RR Nagar, further heightened by the low voter turnout, the margin in Sira was not as high.

Congress candidates H Kusuma and T.B. Jayachandra both ran second in RR Nagar and Sira respectively.

This left the JDS candidates V Krishnamurthy and Ammajamma from RR Nagar and Sira respectively with the fewest amount of votes.
