Lucknow/Bhopal: A group of Kanwariyas, carrying water from the Ganga to Haridwar, trashed a restaurant in Muzaffarnagar one day after the Uttar Pradesh government ordered nameplates to be displayed on eateries along the Kanwar yatra path. They did this after discovering onion pieces in the meal.

The Haryana-based kanwariyas made a lunch halt at Tau Hukkewalah Haryanvi Tourist Dhaba on the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway. They discovered onion slices in the curry while eating. The dhaba workers were attacked by furious kanwariyas, who also ransacked the refrigerator and furniture. They also went after the cook, but he escaped.

According to SHO Rogent Tyagi of Chapar Police Station, when Lord Shiva followers eat basic satvik food during Sawan, they become upset if they discover onions in the dish. All of it, according to Dhaba owner Pramod Kumar, happened due to confusion. It had escaped his notice that the Kanwariyas never even ate onions. Meanwhile, calls for a similar move in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh have grown in response to the Yogi Adityanath government's decision to publish restaurant owners' names.

At least three of the BJP's MLAs in power, including an ex-minister, have praised the UP government's decision and called for a statewide implementation of it. MLA Ramesh Mendola wrote to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, requesting that the display of owners' names be made mandatory throughout the state. Indore is the cleanest city in the nation and the commercial hub of the MP.

“I request the MP government make displaying the names of owners or operators of all mobile and immobile shops compulsory. Such a move will establish the identity of each shop owner in society and help the shop owner enhance his goodwill among customers. It will also ensure better services to customers,” he wrote.
