Kanpur tech institute erupts in massive student protest after JCB kills BCA student

Kanpur: Hundreds of Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology students staged a massive protest Wednesday after final-year BCA student Prakhar Singh died in a collision with a JCB machine during campus construction work.
Chanting "We want justice," the agitators smashed windows, doors, and plants, prompting heavy police deployment amid chaos and minor scuffles. Students blamed inadequate safety measures inside campus; the administration insisted the accident occurred outside.
A protester denied assaulting police despite their claims of evidence: " During the scuffle, the police claimed that I raised my hand against them and that they have proof. If they do, they should present it before everyone. We did not assault anyone."
SDM Sadar Anubhav Singh noted student demands on attendance and timings were met by college authorities. DCP West S.M. Qasim Abdi confirmed mild force restored order without baton charge, attributing unrest to the death plus other grievances.
